From the most recent version of DONA's e-newsletter: "Canadian researchers have determined that the presence of gestational diabetes does not necessarily indicate that the woman will develop diabetes later in life. However, there was an increased risk for subsequent development of diabetes if the gestational diabetes was severe enough to warrant insulin therapy, pre-pregnancy weight was greater than 86 kg (189 lbs), the infant suffered from low blood glucose levels or if the woman also developed gestational diabetes in her other pregnancies."
